All petitions submitted to a governmental entity in the State of Texas become public information, which is releasable under the Texas Public Information Act.
The United States Supreme Court ruled in Doe v. Reed (130 S. Ct. 2811) that disclosure of signatures for a referendum is protected by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.
There is evidence that petition signature gatherers engaged in fraudulent activity and added names to the petition of people who DID NOT sign it.
If your name appears on the petition and you did not sign it, please complete THIS AFFIDAVIT and mail it to the City Secretary.
